Why Visit Sodwana Bay?
A diver’s paradise with wild coastal charm.
Half of South African divers will tell you they prefer Sodwana to Aliwal, the other half swear that Aliwal diving is the best. I would say that Sodwana has the more colourful reefs with more corals and is better for macro and reef fish life, due to its location further to the north and thus being closer to the warmer currents.
Diving is on a reef chain where the reefs are named after their distance from the point: quarter-mile (a snorkelling reef), two-mile, five-mile, seven-mile, and nine-mile. Generally, the further the reef, the fewer the number of divers, which, outside of high season, makes it less likely that the boat will go out to further, more interesting reefs.
