Set along the banks of the Marico River, Thakadu River Camp provides luxurious tented accommodation and a stylish, comfortable base from which to explore the splendid game viewing that only Madikwe Game Reserve, close to the Botswana border, can provide.
Day 1
Day Notes:
After arrival in Johannesburg, you will be met by a transfer driver who will take you to Thakadu River Camp in Madikwe Game Reserve. Once you arrive at the lodge, you will have time to settle in before heading on the first afternoon game drive.

Afternoon shared game drive
Day 2 - 3
Day Notes:
Wake up before dawn for the morning game drive, starting at sunrise. Savour a hot coffee and an early-morning snack before boarding the safari vehicle and departing the lodge in search of animals. Spend 3 hours traversing the bush and looking out for wildlife before they retreat to the shelter of a tree in the heat of the day.
After returning to the lodge for a delectable hot breakfast, you’ll have time to relax and unwind, surrounded by serene African wilderness. Lounge at the pool, delve into a captivating book, have a blissful nap, or simply soak up the sights, sounds and scents of nature.
Afternoon tea is served before your next game drive, departing around 3:30 - 4:30 PM, depending on the time of year. Enjoy a sundowner stop in the bush, returning to the lodge with a spotlight to catch sight of nocturnal animals. Dinner is served before you settle in for the night to the symphony of the wild.

Lindie was always so quick to respond and advise us so I'd definitely recommend booking through Indigo Safaris. In terms of our Safari, the team at the lodge, accommodation, food and safari drives and guides were absolutely fantastic and the whole experience was definitely a highlight of our trip!
South Africa: 19-day Cape Town, Garden Route & Madikwe Safari
This was my second trip through Indigo Safaris, after Papua New Guinea in August. It came about at the last minute as the coup in Madagascar cancelled a trip booked previously through another company. Christopher spring into action and put together a wonderful itinerary for a trip combining a self-drive along the Garden Route that was so much easier than I thought it would be, tours around Cape Town, and a safari to Madikwe before returning to the Cape.
The accommodations were excellent, and that was before we got an upgrade in Cape Town, the scenery so varied, and the wildlife stunning. I'm looking forward to seeing what can be put together for our next trip with more than one week's notice!
