Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, South Africa

Located in the Mpumalanga Province, the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve shares a fenceless border with the world-renowned Kruger National Park. This magnificent 60 000 hectare reserve is best known for its two very rare white lions discovered here in the 1970s, which gave this destination its name. Meaning 'the place where something sacred came down to earth from the heavens', the park lives up to the hype with its enthralling African savannah, abundant wildlife, and friendly people. Visitors have the opportunity to see 40 mammal species, 360 bird species and the famous Big Five (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and Cape buffalo). Enjoy a wide array of activities including daytime safaris, guided night game drives, bush walks, and excellent bird watching.

Walkers Plains Camp

Day 1 - 4

A welcoming home with endless views across the plains of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, Walkers Plains Camp is about family and creating unity… a place for people to come together and experience a simply exceptional safari destination. Anchored by a central, welcoming homestead, eight luxury rooms, each with its own private deck and plunge pool, are spread out amongst the tree line. Guests will feel at home with light filled interiors that spill out towards the wonders of nature.

Day 1

Day Notes:

Upon arrival at Hoedspruit Airport, you will be met for your road transfer to Walkers Plains Camp in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. Once you arrive at the lodge, check-in, and enjoy high tea before setting out on your first shared afternoon game drive to begin your search for the animals, including the Big Five.

Transfers from other airports, such as Nelspruit, Phalaborwa, and Johannesburg, can also be arranged at an additional cost.

Shared afternoon game drive

Day 2 - 3

Day Notes:

The morning game drive starts at sunrise. You will wake up before dawn for tea and coffee before the game drive starts. Then, you are off for 3 hours to find as many animals as possible before they all find trees to hide under in the heat of the day.

When the game drive returns to the lodge, you will be served a delicious hot breakfast and have time to relax. You can sit by the pool, read a book, take a nap and absorb being out in the bush. Or simply enjoy the privacy of your plunge pool at your room.

After lunch, some more relaxing and high tea, the afternoon game drive will start around 3:30–4:00 PM. It will last for +-3 hours, with a stop somewhere for sundowners. You will return to the lodge in the dark, with a spotlight to look for nocturnal animals.
