Thanda, meaning 'Love' in the Zulu language, is a 14,000 hectare private game reserve, situated in the northern region of the KwaZulu Natal Province, approximately 260km from the city of Durban. The reserve offers you the opportunity to have a Big 5 safari in a peaceful and off-the-beaten-track setting as well as immersing yourself in the Zulu culture There are only 3 lodges in the reserve, which means the chances of seeing another vehicle while out on safari are very slim. All the guides are locals from Zululand and they love to share cultural insights as well as their vast wildlife knowledge.

Included activities from all lodges are morning and afternoon safari drives and from Thanda Safari lodge and Villa isiZulu also bush walks. There is also the possibility to walk between Thanda Tented Camp and Thanda Safari Lodge if you book a combination package, which is very good value for money.
On top of the included activities there is also the opportunity to join the rangers on one of their conservation projects like rhino darting, cheetah tracking and a lot more. Since those projects do not happen very frequently we have to check for you what is scheduled when and if you are interested in taking part then we will tailor an itinerary around those dates for you.
