Explore Uganda with Indigo Safaris
Unforgettable Uganda. The small country is well-known for its primate encounters, being home to two-thirds of the world population of mountain gorillas around Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, as well as chimpanzee tracking in Budongo and Kibale (the country is home to more than 5,000 chimps).

Why Visit Uganda?
Where Adventure Meets the Heart of Africa
Yes, there is much more to Uganda than primates. There is great African wildlife viewing in Queen Elizabeth National Park, the tree climbing lions in Ishasha being a highlight, excellent birding and boat-based game viewing in the Kazinga Channel, more wildlife in Murchison Falls National Park, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, relaxing beach getaways on the islands of Lake Victoria, and the breath-taking Wild Waters Lodge wedged on a tropical forest island between the rapids on the Nile, one of our favourite lodges on the continent.
And the for off-the beaten track adventurous, there is Kidepo Valley at the border to South Sudan, a very special place with fantastic wildlife viewing opportunities and great cultural experiences too.
Best Times to Visit Uganda
Seasons of Green Hills and Golden Encounters
Uganda, the “Pearl of Africa,” offers year-round beauty, from mist-covered forests and snow-capped peaks to savannah plains filled with wildlife. While the country can be visited at any time, certain months offer optimal conditions for trekking, photography, and exploration.
- 🌀 June to September – Prime Safari and Trekking Season
-
This is the best time to visit Uganda. The dry season brings clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and excellent conditions for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking. Wildlife congregates around water sources, making safaris in Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls National Parks particularly rewarding.
- 🌀 December to February – Warm and Vibrant
-
Another dry period, ideal for both primate trekking and classic safaris. Birdwatching peaks as migratory species arrive, and the landscapes remain lush and photogenic.
- 🌀 March to May – The Long Rains
-
While trails can be muddy, the scenery is stunningly green, and tourist numbers are low. Perfect for photographers and travellers seeking peace, solitude, and good-value lodges.
- 🌀 October to November – Short Rains, Bright Days
-
Light showers refresh the landscapes without disrupting travel. Excellent for birding and those seeking fewer crowds while still enjoying good trekking conditions.

Uganda & Kenya – 13-day Tailor-made Uganda & Kenya Safari
Indigo Safaris provided us with an ideal itinerary for our travel to Uganda and Kenya. They were quick to respond to all our communications and were full of great options or ideas and very pleasant to deal with. Kerry Wyatt with Indigo Safaris was our main contact when we made our initial contact with that company to assist us with planning a once in a lifetime trip to East Africa for a gorilla trek and safari experience. She was terrific in setting up an ideal travel itinerary for the two of us, very pleasant and in spite of the time difference was very prompt in providing responses to us with very good input and ideas for our travel.
