About Indigo Safaris

Founder Christopher Bartlett’s love affair with Africa began in 1997 during a trip to Namibia, inspiring a lifelong passion for its wild places and marine wonders. After relocating to KwaZulu Natal in 2005, he became both a safari field guide and underwater guide, later combining these with his photography and writing to cover East African destinations for diving magazines. Returning to the UK in 2009, he channelled his expertise and enthusiasm into creating Indigo Safaris, helping others experience Africa’s beauty firsthand. Christopher continues to spend several months each year exploring Africa’s reserves and dive sites, as well as leading whale and megafauna expeditions in Dominica, Papua New Guinea, and Mexico.

Director Ines Moosman brings over 20 years of African travel expertise to Indigo Safaris. Having previously worked with Elefant-Tours in Germany and the renowned Cox & Kings in London, she joined the team in 2016, bringing exceptional destination and lodge knowledge. Fluent in both English and German, Ines is also a passionate diver and photographer. As a company director, she oversees African product development and sales, continually expanding her first-hand experience through regular travel across the continent.

Matthew O joined Indigo Safaris in 2019, bringing extensive first-hand experience from his years guiding in Namibia and Botswana. A proud South African, his deep understanding of the continent’s wildlife and landscapes makes him an invaluable resource for clients planning their dream safaris. In 2024, he took on a leadership role within the Safari Specialist team, mentoring others while sharing his passion through writing and personalised travel planning. Outside of work, Matthew is a devoted Springbok rugby supporter, enthusiastic squash player, and freshwater sailor.

Terri Hudson, originally from the leafy suburbs of Cape Town, has nurtured a lifelong passion for animals and wildlife of every kind—furry, feathered, scaled, and aquatic. Her background in agriculture and veterinary work laid the foundation for a deep understanding of nature and conservation. Nine years ago, she transitioned into the world of African safaris, where she continues to explore the continent’s wild spaces and share their magic with travellers. Through her work, Terri combines her love for Africa’s natural heritage with a commitment to preserving its remarkable ecosystems and wildlife.

Jon brings over 25 years of diverse experience in the travel industry, underpinned by a background in biological sciences and a lifelong passion for exploration. After a decade in Sydney working for a global travel retailer, he returned to London to focus on luxury African travel, crafting bespoke itineraries across the continent. His years of experience have given him an exceptional understanding of East Africa and Madagascar, from the tsingy landscapes and lemurs of Madagascar to gorilla encounters in Uganda and Rwanda. Now based in northern England, Jon is dedicated to designing immersive, tailor-made journeys that connect travellers with Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife and landscapes.

Matthew Milward’s travels have taken him across 52 countries, from the Caribbean’s turquoise waters to the Great Barrier Reef and the remote islands of Vanuatu and Fiji. Yet, it was Africa—and its vast wilderness and oceans—that truly captured his heart. Returning home to South Africa ignited his passion for safaris, and since 2017 he has been crafting bespoke itineraries that bring the magic of Africa to life for adventurous travellers. Based in Cape Town, Matthew regularly explores Southern Africa’s wild spaces, deepening his first-hand knowledge to create unforgettable journeys. Guided by his love for both land and sea, he is dedicated to curating travel experiences that inspire and connect people with the soul of Africa.

Based in the safari hub of Hoedspruit, South Africa, Shannon Maclean brings over 22 years of experience in the safari industry. Her career has spanned luxury lodges across South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia, and Namibia, giving her extensive insight into the region’s premier destinations. Passionate about exceptional service, Shannon takes great pride in pairing guests with experiences that perfectly suit their dreams. Her deep knowledge and personal touch ensure every traveller enjoys an unforgettable African safari.

Nelia is a Zimbabwean safari expert who joined us in July 2024 with eight years of extensive experience creating luxury safari itineraries for Southern Africa. She has lived and worked in Zimbabwe and South Africa and is an avid traveller who has travelled to Zambia, South Africa, and Botswana. She enjoys creating lasting memories for all the clients she works with.

With over 33 years of experience in the tourism industry as a tour guide, dive operator and tour operator, Michele has a passion for everything African, especially it's wildlife. Having grown up in Zambia & Botswana and worked in Uganda, Mozambique, Zambia, Botswana, South Africa, Tanzania, and Namibia, her love for the bush and the people of Africa started in her teens and has grown over the years. Sharing her knowledge with others and creating the best possible safari experience for them is priceless. There is no place like Africa, and for those fortunate enough to visit the continent, it's an absolute pleasure for her to create the perfect, genuine, and authentic African safari holiday for them.
