Why Visit Tanzania?
A safari paradise with endless variety.
In the north there is the legendary Ngorongoro Crater and it's 30,000 hooved mammals, the Serengeti's amazing migration of around two million wildebeest, zebra, Grant's and Thomson's gazelles, to the lesser known, nearby parks of picturesque Tarangire National Park with its annual elephant migration in the dry season, and Lake Manyara National Park with it's birdlife, tree-climbing lions and elephants.
In the south there are the giant Selous Game Reserve/Nyerere National Park and Ruaha National Park, an exciting light aircraft flight from Dar-es-Salaam and Mikumi National Park, which is just a four-hour drive from Dar.
In the west Katavi National Park is almost never visited despite plentiful lions and huge buffalo and hippo herds, and Mahale Mountains National Park offers what it probably the best primate encounter going.

Best Times To Visit Tanzania
Seasons that shape the adventure.
Tanzania can be explored throughout the year, though certain months highlight unique experiences.
- ➡ June to November (Dry Season)
-
Prime time for wildlife viewing, with clear skies and easier game spotting. June to November is river-crossing season firstly the north west, then the east of the park.
- ➡ March & April (Green Season)
-
The “long rains” fall mid-March to late-April, but generally at night. This means: Lush scenery, vibrant birdlife, and fewer travellers.
- ➡ May - June (Solitude)
-
May and June are quiet and the cheapest time of year to go, along with November and early December.
- ➡ January to March (Calving Season)
-
The Great Migration’s birthing season in the Southern Serengeti, with dramatic predator action.

Tanzania – 10-day Selous & Ruaha Safari – Private Fly-in
For my first-time safari experience in Tanzania, I could not have chosen a more professional and yet friendly travel agent to work with. Ines Moosman with Indigo Safaris, covered all areas of fly-in safari life, and explained in detail every aspect of my travel requirements and experience. Ines also quickly responded to my questions, and explained how my choices would affect my travel--something that was particularly important for a first-time solo traveler. Thanks to Ines and Indigo Safari's efforts, it looks like I may be rearranging my future trips list, and taking a look at Botswana next after all.
Excellent game drives with knowledgeable guides in both Rufiji River Camp in Selous (Nyerere National Park ) and Ruaha River Lodge in Ruaha National Park. I can't say enough about the attentive camp managers, comfortable accommodations and exceptional food in both camps.
Tanzania – 7-day Taste of the North Safari
Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater & Tarangire combined Safari
Dickson our driver is a true gentleman and has been driving Safari trips for over 20 years. His knowledge about animals and the Reserves is hard gained and invaluable.
Other Safari drivers acknowledged him everywhere we went and it is obvious he is well respected. The descent into the crater is steep and takes driving skills. We again saw a lot of wildlife within the crater. The lodge at Tarangire is to die for. Wow the views worth the whole safari trip.Would I book with Indigo Safaris again. 110%. Another country and another experience.
Tanzania – Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater Safari
Our safari in Tanzania was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived at Serengeti National Park, everything was fantastic — the camp was perfect, and the experience exceeded our expectations. The warm welcome, enthusiasm, attention, and constant smiles from everyone made our stay even more special.
At Tarangire, we once again enjoyed excellent service, a beautiful tent, and wonderful hospitality. Everything was perfectly organized. We were still delighted with our stay and overall experience.
From start to finish, the trip went smoothly and was perfectly managed. For a first safari in Tanzania, it was an incredible success. Thank you, Christopher, and the entire team for making this such a memorable adventure!
