Ruaha National Park, Tanzania

Following its recent expansion, Ruaha is currently East Africa’s biggest national park and the second-largest on the African continent. It is also Tanzania’s most sizeable elephant haven and home to a profusion of around 570 bird species, including kingfishers, plovers, egrets, hornbills and sunbirds. Crocodiles and hippos thrive in the Great Ruaha River, which flows along the sanctuary’s eastern border in the rainy season. In the dry season between July and November, animals flock to the last remaining water sources, presenting an exceptional wildlife spectacle.

    Day 1 - 5

Ikuka Safari Camp is a distinguished safari camp in Ruaha National Park that is quite noteworthy due to its spectacular location atop the Mwagusi Escarpment in southern Tanzania. The site allows for expansive and breathtaking views that are unparalleled by other accommodations in the area. The views are perfectly complemented by an intimate and personalized and experienced that can only be found in smaller accommodations in the African bush country. The seven guest bandas on the property are designed to blend in with the surroundings and give guests the utmost experience of being connected with nature by way of stone, thatch and natural wood construction. Awaken in the morning to the calls of nature from the comfort of a large, cozy bed. When you are ready to start the day’s adventure, freshen up in the en-suite bathroom that offers a large stone vanity with two vessel sinks, shower, and toilet. You can then curl up with a cup of coffee or tea on your private elevated wood deck that surrounds the entire banda or in the relaxing sitting area, both of which provide breathtaking views of the Ruaha’s wilderness reserve.

Pemba Island, Tanzania

While similar in size to its neighbouring Unguja Island, Pemba is far less developed and touristy. As a result, this island paradise has a remarkably remote, authentic and unspoilt feel to it - and the coastline is lined with gorgeous mangroves and secluded beaches. Known throughout East Africa as a centre for practicing and learning the ancient arts of traditional African healing, the island has a rich and fascinating history that the notoriously friendly locals seem eager to share with visitors. Pemba is home to three main towns and boasts a wide range of attractions. Spend your days exploring the indigenous Ngezi and Ras Kiuyu Forests, both brimming with an abundance of unusual bird and wildlife; scuba diving in the crystal-clear waters (home to a variety of marine life including mantas and turtles), or exploring the incredible Ras Mkumbuu Ruins which date back to the 11th century.

Tanzania trip to Ruaha and Pemba

We were the only 2 passengers into Ruaha and arrived ahead of schedule after a very smooth, easy flight. And essentially we were the only people staying at the River Lodge, so we were treated very well and had our own driver and guide the whole time. I truly enjoyed our stay in Ruaha - it is a beautiful park, particularly after the rain. We had some great lion sightings and even watched them with a kill.
On to Pemba and again the flight was on time, easy flight, etc. The road transfer ride Saray is interesting to watch the scenery go by and our driver was friendly and bought us bananas on the way! We were met with a very-appreciated cold drink and made to feel very welcome. Mum and I snorkelled one day and I kayaked in the mangroves another day. Otherwise we enjoyed watching the view horizontally (that is lying on the couches watching the water). We met some fascinating people from all areas of the globe. It feels like one big happy family at KS, a very relaxed welcoming approach.
So we had a fantastic time. Flights ran on time, the weather was good, and we were very well looked after at both our destinations.

Fantastic time!

3 weeks in Tanzania including safari and time on the coast on Pemba and Zanzibar. Ines really worked well with us suggesting a great trip outline.

Honeymoon Safari in Tanzania

I cannot recommend this experience enough. Indigo Safaris went above and beyond to make sure our trip was special and they certainly achieved just that. We went to some of the most breath taking places and stayed in some incredible accommodation. Our driver Dickson was fabulous, we learned so much from him and thoroughly enjoyed spending a few days with him. This was all made possible because of indigo safaris professional and knowledgeable approach and we are so grateful to them. They were happy to work with our budget and tailor make an experience to our exact needs. The whole process was completely seamless and we would certainly book with them again!

Southern Tanzania Safari

As a first-time, solo, female traveler for a fly-in Tanzania safari, I could not have chosen a more professional and easy to work with travel company. Ines proved to be knowledgeable in all aspects of my trip, from securing a Tanzania eVisa, to light aircraft flights within the country, to detailed descriptions of the camps I would visit.
Ines also quickly responded to my questions regarding game drives/vehicles, dining and, in general, what I could expect at the lodges She also listened to what I had to say--something I consider vital in traveler-tour agent relationships.

Thanks to the efforts of Ines and Indigo Safaris, I'm determined to take another safari next year.

Tanzania – 10-day Selous & Ruaha Safari – Private Fly-in

For my first-time safari experience in Tanzania, I could not have chosen a more professional and yet friendly travel agent to work with. Ines Moosman with Indigo Safaris, covered all areas of fly-in safari life, and explained in detail every aspect of my travel requirements and experience. Ines also quickly responded to my questions, and explained how my choices would affect my travel--something that was particularly important for a first-time solo traveler. Thanks to Ines and Indigo Safari's efforts, it looks like I may be rearranging my future trips list, and taking a look at Botswana next after all.

Excellent game drives with knowledgeable guides in both Rufiji River Camp in Selous (Nyerere National Park ) and Ruaha River Lodge in Ruaha National Park. I can't say enough about the attentive camp managers, comfortable accommodations and exceptional food in both camps.
