Epic landscapes and untamed freedom.

Namibia, the driest country in sub-Saharan Africa is home to the oldest desert and some of the oldest tribes on the planet. A country twice the size of Germany but with just a fraction of the population, it is is the place to go to if your focus is not solely on wildlife, but also on breath-taking landscapes, history and culture; and certainly if you want to avoid crowded places. It is also the country that differs the most from all other African safari countries and probably the one that offers the widest variety in experiences.

Our Destinations In Namibia

Discover captivating destinations filled with rich culture, stunning landscapes, and unforgettable experiences.

Why Visit Namibia?

Dunes, wildlife, and endless horizons.

The highlights of any first Namibia trip are climbing the world's highest dunes and enjoying the breath-taking scenery of Sossusvlei in the Namib Naukluft National Park, exploring the German coastal town of Swakopmund together with the shipwrecks and the world's largest seal colony on the Skeleton Coast, and of course, tracking down big game combined with watching crowded waterholes in Etosha National Park.

Rich in Wildlife

The stunning flora and fauna offers desert adapted antelope species like the oryx, desert-dwelling elephants, lions, giraffe and rhinos that can be tracked on foot; cheeath and leopard that can be seen up close at one of the many conservation projects, 2000-year-old welwitschia mirabilis, the very photogenic kokerbome - just to mention the highlights.

Best Times to Visit Namibia

A destination of year-round wonder.

Namibia can be visited all year round and what is the best time depends as so often on where you wish to go exactly and how you want to travel.

June to September

June to September is commonly considered to be the best time to travel, as it is the dry-season, not too hot during the day (cold at night though) and very good for game viewing.

October & November

In October & November the temperatures start rising and can go up to C40 in the desert and it can be quite dusty. Game viewing however is then at its very best.

November to March

The rainy season usually lasts from late November to March. If you don't mind higher temperatures during the days though and some afternoon showers, then it is no problem to travel in the rainy season and you will not only be rewarded with beautiful green scenery, but you can also take advantage of reduced green season rates and some amazing specials, particularly at the higher end lodges.

April & May

April and May are our favourite months, as the air is still fresh from the end of the rainy season, everywhere is blooming and you find less visitors around than in the dry season - even though Namibia is not a country of big tourist crowds at any time of year.

Travel Essentials – Everything you need to know before you go

Yes, tap water in towns and cities is generally safe to drink. In more remote areas, purified or bottled water is recommended and is widely available.

Most of Namibia is malaria-free, including Etosha, Sossusvlei, and the Skeleton Coast. However, northern regions such as the Zambezi Strip (Caprivi) and parts of Kaokoland can be malaria zones, particularly during the rainy season (December to April). Consult your doctor before travel.

Namibia uses the Southern African standard plug type (Type D & M, three large round pins). Adapters are easily available, and most lodges have sockets for charging cameras and devices. Electricity is 220/240V.

Wi-Fi is available in most lodges, hotels, and guesthouses, though speeds can vary, especially in remote areas. Don’t expect strong coverage in wilderness camps or desert lodges—perfect for truly switching off.

Most game drives and excursions require minimal fitness. However, activities like hiking in the Fish River Canyon, climbing Big Daddy dune in Sossusvlei, or walking safaris in Kaokoland require a good level of mobility and moderate fitness.

  • Light, breathable clothing for daytime
  • A warm layer for chilly mornings and evenings (especially in the desert)
  • A wide-brimmed hat and sunscreen
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Binoculars and a camera with plenty of storage
  • A universal power adapter

Travellers from most European countries, the UK, USA, Canada, and many others do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates, with two blank pages.

Absolutely—Namibia is one of Africa’s best self-drive destinations, with excellent roads, wide open landscapes, and well-marked routes. A 4×4 is recommended for exploring areas like Damaraland, Kaokoland, and the Skeleton Coast. Indigo Safaris offers custom self-drive itineraries with vehicle hire, route planning, and accommodation included.

Yes, Namibia is excellent for families. With malaria-free regions, open spaces, and exciting landscapes like Sossusvlei dunes, Etosha’s salt pan, and the Skeleton Coast, children and adults alike will be enthralled. Many lodges welcome families with dedicated rooms and child-friendly activities.

Makes everything for you to get the best out of your adventure!

I went on a 4 day Soussusvlei and Swakopmund tour and it was absolutely amazing. The contact with Indigo Safaris, in my case Michele, was excellent and she did absolutely everything to make the trip as memorable as I wished for.
When in Swakopmund I suggest you do the 4X4 wheel on the sand dunes in Sandwich Harbour which is the Namibia you´ve probably seen on pictures, where the dunes meets the ocean. Don´t miss this!
Travelling from Swakopmund to Sossusvlei was an adventure itself with the changing landscape along the road.
Also the guide we had, Kennedy, was great and a very good and safe driver.
I definitely recommend this tour and Indigo Safaris!
