Mlevu Rhino Camp
Day 3 - 10
Mlevu Rhino Camp is nestled within the communal Mlevu Rhino Sanctuary on the southern edge of Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park, accessible via a scenic light-aircraft flight or a combination of road and the iconic “Elephant Express” railcar from Victoria Falls. This intimate conservation-focused camp offers rustic tented and brick-under-thatch accommodations, all with ensuite bathrooms and cosy communal dining and lounge areas, ideal for group or solo stays. Guests immerse themselves in hands-on voluntourism, supporting rhino monitoring and the Cobras Community Wildlife Protection Unit, participating in local craft sessions and traditional cooking, and joining dawn runs or night patrols with community scouts—all designed to foster sustainable wildlife and community conservation. Beyond community conservation, travellers can enjoy game drives and guided bush walks with expert trackers from Imvelo’s neighbouring lodges, spotting wildlife and learning ancient tracking skills. In the evenings, campfire storytelling is perfect under the African sky.
Day 3 - 9
Day Notes:
We will spend seven days and nights at Mlevu Camp, where we will explore the area and take part in the volunteering activities assigned to our group.
This stay offers direct exposure to community-based conservation in practice. You will gain first-hand insight into the challenges of balancing conservation goals with community needs while contributing to initiatives that support both people and wildlife.
Activities are not scheduled in advance and respond to local priorities. Please refer to the introduction for an overview of the types of volunteering activities that may take place.
A typical day starts early, with breakfast at camp before beginning the first morning activity. Some activities may start as early as 6:00.
Lunch will usually be taken at camp, although depending on the day’s responsibilities, a packed lunch may be arranged. Mlevu Rhino Camp offers a private dining area reserved for our volunteering group.
In the afternoon, we will continue with additional volunteering activities before returning to camp for dinner.

Jozibanini Camp
Day 10 - 14
Jozibanini Camp is situated in the remote south west of Hwange National Park in a wilderness unused for nearly 20 years; only the wildlife and the Parks rangers who look after it frequent this area, once roamed by San people. This is a small, truly exclusive camp in a truly wild place, providing a unique, untamed wilderness experience.
Day 10
Day Notes:
This day is dedicated to our transfer to Jozibanini Camp, located in the remote southern sector of Hwange National Park.
After breakfast, we depart by game-viewing vehicle for a pump run, travelling through the park toward Jozibanini Tented Camp.
A pump run is a conservation-focused game drive during which we visit waterholes and pumping stations maintained by Imvelo Trust. Along the way, we observe wildlife and check that each pump is functioning correctly. These inspections ensure water continues to reach wildlife and allow any maintenance issues to be reported quickly.
During the journey, we stop for a bush lunch before continuing toward Jozibanini. The pump run involves approximately four to five hours of driving.
We arrive at Jozibanini Camp in the afternoon and settle into our safari tents, all positioned to overlook the waterhole where elephants regularly gather to drink.
If time allows, we visit the elephant hide before sunset to observe wildlife activity at the waterhole. We then return to camp for dinner by the fire.
About Jozibanini Camp
Jozibanini Tented Camp is a rustic and remote camp designed for a true wilderness experience. Accommodation is simple and functional, consisting of elevated safari tents, a toilet, and a bucket shower with hot water provided on request. Meals are served in an open dining area with tables and seating arranged near the fire. Limited Wi-Fi is available via Starlink.
Jozibanini is exceptional for several reasons.
- The camp is deeply remote and isolated. It is the only camp within at least seventy kilometres, meaning you will be the sole guests in the area. The silence and sense of distance from the outside world make it an ideal place to disconnect while becoming fully present in nature.
- The camp staff are highly attentive and focused entirely on guest well-being.
- The elephant hide offers an extraordinary wildlife experience. When elephants arrive to drink, the encounters are intimate and intense. On warm days, herds may approach quickly, drink, play, and rest while remaining unaware of observers. You are extremely close, close enough to feel their presence through sound and movement. From this position, it is possible to observe herd dynamics, social behaviour, and subtle interactions that are rarely seen elsewhere.
- Game viewing at Jozibanini is diverse and immersive. Activities may include guided bush walks, mountain bike excursions, or traditional game drives. Wildlife here is fully wild and unhabituated, making each sighting unique.
- Animals move freely through the camp area, heightening awareness and sharpening the senses at all times.
- There is also the option to sleep in a star bed, offering an unobstructed view of the night sky. On clear nights, the Milky Way is vividly visible, often accompanied by the sounds of elephants at the nearby waterhole.
If you are seeking adventure and value a raw, genuine wilderness experience, this camp delivers exactly that.

Day 11
Day Notes:
A typical day at Jozibanini begins with an early breakfast before sunrise, taken beside the fire.
The early start increases the likelihood of wildlife encounters, as animals are most active during the cooler hours of the day.
Game-viewing activities are selected through discussion with the group and the guide. Options available at this camp include guided bush walks, mountain bike excursions, or game drives using a viewing vehicle. Mountain biking allows greater distances to be covered, after which bikes are left behind so wildlife can be approached on foot when conditions allow.
We return to camp for lunch or enjoy a packed meal in the surrounding area, often near a waterhole or within a scenic setting.
Afternoon activities follow a similar format to the morning. There is also the option to spend time at the hide, waiting quietly for elephants to arrive at the waterhole, which is often the preferred afternoon experience.
We return to camp in the evening to settle in and enjoy dinner by the fire.

Zimbabwe & Botswana – 11-day Victoria Falls and Okavango Delta Experience – Private Fly-in
Meticulous organisation, great destinations, some innovation - without Indigo we would never have had allt he experiences.
Kruger, Vic Falls, & Chobe
We had talked to a few tour companies and we are so glad we went with Indigo Safaris. Price to service ratio was excellent. We cannot recommend Matthew enough!! He did a great itinerary for us - from Kruger park to Victoria falls and Chobe park. The places chosen were excellent - from high end to more boutique, all with our budget in mind. He changed and updated the itinerary through our early indecisiveness and brought us to places we did not imagine. But it was the little things that really mattered- arranging a birthday celebration for our daughter at the safari lodge and also making a dream come true with a bungee jump - ensuring she was the first to jump that day so we could make our plane. Booking day trips through Matthew were the same price as going direct….yet so much more convenient - he made magic happen to fit our schedules at short notice. He was available at any time. He was always willing to go the extra mile. And we all had an amazing trip thanks to the great work from Matthew. Thank you so much.
