Itinerary

Kalahari Namibia, Namibia

Spreading across Botswana, South Africa and Namibia, the Kalahari, meaning 'the great thirst', is an exceptionally beautiful living desert. The landscape is characterised by a large semi-arid sandy savannah, draped over a gently rolling inland sea of sand that covers most of Botswana and large parts of Namibia and South Africa. It is inhabited by the indigenous San people, with the modern world having enveloped all the other areas they once roamed. The Namibian portion is made up of red sands covered in thin, wispy, mostly golden grass and dotted with acacia trees and wide-ranging wildlife, including gemsbok, impala, jackals and cheetah.

Set between the rolling dunes of the Namib Desert and the icy Atlantic coastline, Swakopmund is a relaxed seaside town in western Namibia known for its German colonial architecture, cool coastal climate, and adventurous spirit. Palm-lined streets, historic buildings, and ocean fog create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the country. Travellers visit for desert activities such as quad biking, sandboarding, and scenic flights over vast dunes and shipwreck-strewn shores. Cafés, bakeries, and small museums add to the town's laid-back charm, though the Atlantic waters are brisk rather than tropical. The name ‘Twyfelfontein’ translates to ‘Fountain of Doubt’, which refers to the perennial spring situated in the impressive Huab Valley flanked by the slopes of a sandstone table mountain. It was this spring that attracted Stone Age hunters over six thousand years ago, and it was during this time that the extensive group of rock engravings and paintings were produced. Visitors can look forward to basing themselves at some wonderfully shady campsites along the Aba-Huab riverbed, while exploring over thirty different sacred ritual sites of the traditional hunter-gatherer communities.

Windhoek, Namibia

Windhoek, Namibia’s capital, lies in the heart of the country amid the rolling Khomas Highlands, where wide skies and dry savannah frame a compact, orderly city. It blends German colonial heritage with contemporary African identity, creating a calm, understated atmosphere rather than a bustling metropolis. Landmarks such as Christuskirche and the Tintenpalast sit alongside modern civic buildings, while lively markets and cafés reveal everyday Namibian life. Visitors can explore museums, stroll shaded streets, or use the city as a gateway to the surrounding wilderness and safari regions. The air is often dry and clear, carrying the scent of dust and jacaranda blossoms, while distant hills glow at sunset. Windhoek offers a gentle introduction to Namibia’s landscapes and culture, with space, light and quiet defining its appeal.

Namibia – 9-Day Northern Circuit Adventure – Private Self-Drive

ndigo Safaris and Michele Addison delivered the best trip we could have imagined. Namibia was on our bucket list and clearly a step into the unknown. There are many travel companies offering tailored safari packages but from my initial enquiry Michele listened, advised & adjusted the itinerary to meet our needs. Michele then provisionally booked all the accommodation and vehicle rental - she was able to send a detailed PDF itinerary with insightful descriptions of key places to visit and accommodation. The plan worked like clockwork - starting and finishing at the same lovely guesthouse in Windhoek which was a nice way to round off the trip! Michele was always on hand via email and WhatsApp with rapid response to enquiries we made whilst travelling around. Namibia is an absolutely lovely country with so much to offer with wonderful people - we believe that Indigo Safaris and Michele's expert knowledge and advice helped maximise our trip around the country.

Samantha Scott Classic Namibia Adventure – Private Self-drive

Our holiday was phenomenal and Michele was fabulous. Her attention to detail, responsiveness and understanding of what we wanted from the trip was fantastic, helping us with additional suggestions and ideas to make things even better.

Unfortunately we needed to postpone our holiday due to a family bereavement and she was so accommodating and adaptable with the changes, making sure every detail was perfect. We also experienced some initial difficulties when we arrived (nothing to do with Indigo Safaris?) and Michele was able to support us with some additional changes that needed to be made.

If you'd like a stress-free, amazing travel experience then Indigo Safaris is your place!
