Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa

Bordering Botswana in South Africa’s North West Province, Madikwe Game Reserve is the fifth-largest reserve in the country and is home to a great number of animal species. It contains a wild dog reserve, and is inhabited by the world-renowned Big Five, as well as Brown Hyenas, Cheetahs, and Aardwolf. Visitors will also be surrounded by over 300 bird species, including vulture, ostrich, and the large kori bustard. The landscape is characterised by vast grasslands, woodlands, and the rugged Tshwene Tshwene hills - creating enthralling scenes that often attract photographers and artists. Visitors can look forward to sunset drinks overlooking the Madikwe Dam. Madikwe Game Reserve is one of the only reserves in South Africa that is malaria free.

Day 1

Day Notes:

You will be collected from Johannesburg and transferred via road to Madikwe Game Reserve. Once you arrive at Tuningi Safari Lodge, you will settle in and then head out on your first shared afternoon game drive.

Transfer time: ~4 hours

Day 2 - 3

Day Notes:

You will enjoy a shared early morning game drive accompanied by a qualified ranger followed by a cooked breakfast.

After breakfast, you can relax with a book by the pool, or go for a wellness treatment (at additional cost). In the afternoon, you will go on a shared game drive, and then come back to the lodge for dinner.

There is a childrens' program available for an hour each day included in the activities.

South Africa: 19-day Cape Town, Garden Route & Madikwe Safari

This was my second trip through Indigo Safaris, after Papua New Guinea in August. It came about at the last minute as the coup in Madagascar cancelled a trip booked previously through another company. Christopher spring into action and put together a wonderful itinerary for a trip combining a self-drive along the Garden Route that was so much easier than I thought it would be, tours around Cape Town, and a safari to Madikwe before returning to the Cape.
The accommodations were excellent, and that was before we got an upgrade in Cape Town, the scenery so varied, and the wildlife stunning. I'm looking forward to seeing what can be put together for our next trip with more than one week's notice!

Booking a safari isn't easy when you start with a google search. i sent out emails to five companies. Indigo's response time and follow up, alongside suggestions, were the best by far. South Africa – Kruger Private Reserve Safari

We stayed at the Honeyguide Mantobeni Camp in the Manyeleti Game Reserve which boarders without a fence to Kruger National Park. The location, camp and accommodations were superb. Michele, our Safari consultant did an outstanding job on understanding what we wanted. Her service and our Safari were perfect 10's!!
