A True Wilderness Experience
Why Visit Klaserie Private Game Reserve?
Since its inception in 1969, Klaserie has had a keen eye focused on keeping commercial and human impact in the reserve to a minimum. As a result, it is one of the most unspoilt reserves in the area. Limited visitor numbers allow for guests to spend more time at game-viewing spots observing the wildlife. It feels like a relatively pristine stretch of wilderness, with game-viewing close to the levels associated with more premium brand reserves. Klaserie is also known for its excellent walking safaris.
As well as the Big 5, Klaserie is home to endangered African wild dog, southern ground hornbill, and white-backed vulture. Visitors will spot hordes of plains game on the open veld while the Klaserie River is popular with hippos, elephants, rhino, and buffalo herds.
Space to Roam, On Foot or By Vehicle

Klaserie’s Walking Safaris and Low Visitor Numbers
Klaserie was established in 1969 and is one of the largest privately owned reserves in South Africa, covering 600 square kilometres of open lowveld east of Hoedspruit. The reserve deliberately keeps lodge numbers and bed capacity low relative to its size, which means fewer vehicles at any sighting and more time spent watching wildlife rather than sharing space with other groups.
Klaserie is one of the few Greater Kruger reserves where walking safaris are offered alongside standard vehicle-based game drives, giving guests the option to track wildlife on foot with an armed guide at camps such as nThambo Tree Camp and Africa on Foot, a different pace of safari that suits travellers who have already done a more conventional drive-based trip elsewhere.
