Itinerary

Cockburn Town, Turks and Caicos Islands

Cockburn Town stretches along the narrow western edge of Grand Turk, where whitewashed buildings and narrow streets run parallel to the shoreline. Low-lying terrain and sparse vegetation frame the town, with the Atlantic rolling in just beyond the seawall. Established in the late 1600s, it became the capital due to its role in the salt trade, a legacy still visible in the remnants of salinas and storage warehouses. The Turks and Caicos National Museum, located in the historic Guinep House, documents local shipwrecks, Lucayan heritage, and the island’s connection to early space missions. Offshore reefs attract divers with coral formations and occasional dolphin sightings, while whale watching draws attention during the migration season. Walking through Cockburn Town, visitors pass pastel colonial facades, the old post office, and rusting cannons facing the sea. Activities remain quiet and low-key, shaped more by daily island life than structured tourism.

Dominica Sperm Whales

My trip to Dominica was my third attempt to swim with and photograph sperm whales - 10 years ago in the Azores and 5 years ago at the Ogasawara Islands in Japan. It's an expensive trip and I explored many options before deciding on Indigo Safaris. I decided to use them because their pricing was reasonable, they had options for the accommodation (which can be very expensive) and seemed to know what they were doing. I did two back-to-back trips - so 12 days in the water and we had encounters with the whales every day. On three of those days we had exceptional encounters which were simply incredible. I had a great trip overall - here's why: 1. Reasonable pricing for the location. 2. Good boat that was well managed. 3. Excellent guides who knew what they were doing and followed the rules of engagement with the whales (unlike many of the other boats we saw). 4. I got what I paid for. I will use Indigo Safaris again and would recommend them.

I had a great trip

Dominica and Mexico trips

I’ve had the pleasure of doing two trips with Indigo Safaris: the first with sperm whales in Dominica & the other a dive liveaboard to Socorro. Both were well organised, with some extras; and the sperm whale trip, in particular, provided access to a wonderful experience, at a good value. It’s very difficult to access that trip other than through a very small number of operators and the MD, Chris, provides accommodation choices that make it more affordable than others. Chris was also on my Socorro trip & on both holidays, provided great support with camera skills and knowledge regarding the wildlife. He’s also fun to chill with after an intense day on or in the water. To summarise, Indigo Safaris are a reliable, experienced operator offering some amazing wildlife encounters and I shall certainly be travelling with them again.

Great support

Dominica and Salt Cay whale trips

I've done 3 trips now with Indigo Safaris and would absolutely recommend them. The cost is very reasonable compared to other companies, especially for Dominica sperm whale snorkeling! Chris is very knowledgeable and tries to make everyone's experience the best it can be. He is very honest and tells it like it is, which can be off-putting for some, but is also necessary to ensure safe encounters for all participants (and the wildlife), and to make sure that everyone has a chance to have a pleasant experience. He also arranged a bespoke trip for my group of friends for a trip to Turks and Caicos and made sure to find the most reasonable tour operator and best accommodations for our party. I will absolutely be using him for future trips to Africa and other destinations on our bucket list, as well as repeat Dominica trips. I hope to see Chris on other trips because his presence is always enjoyable.

Very honest and tells it like it is

Alina Dominica Sperm Whales

As all Indigo Safari trips I have done it was well organized and relaxing. The highlight was obviously swimming with the whales. I appreciate and respect Christopher's insistence of following protocol and not chasing or harassing animals…added bonus-it always leads to better interactions! Christopher has in depth knowledge of the village and surrounding areas and the land tour was a must for adventure and learning more about the island. Back to the whales which as I said are the star of the trip-the boat crew were excellent and very dedicated to getting us as many encounters as possible. It was an amazing week with memories that will stay with me!
