Andasibe, Madagascar

Located in eastern Madagascar in the Moramanga District, the small village of Andasibe is surrounded by a belt of protected rainforest and several parks boasting incredible natural scenery and an array of exotic Madagascan wildlife.     Day 2 - 4

    Relais de Mantadia is located in Andasibe, Moramanga, Madagascar, immersed within a eucalyptus forest that offers a serene natural setting. It is just five minutes from Analamazaotra National Park and nearby private reserves known for rich biodiversity and endemic species including lemurs. Day 2

Day Notes:

After a brief driving tour around Antananarivo, we will drive to Andasibe through the green and luxuriant vegetation of the east. As we travel deeper into the region, the surroundings become a blend of primary forests serene lakes, rice fields, and cascading waterfalls. Along the way we will see villages of the Merina people scattered throughout the rocky mountainside. 

Enroute we will stop at the Exotic Park in Marozevo, a fascinating reserve dedicated to Madagascar's unique reptiles, amphibians, and insects providing a deeper appreciation for the island's incredible biodiversity. Continue to Andasibe and arrive in the late afternoon. In the evening, we will set off from the hotel at approximately 18h00 (depending on the season) on a night walk to observe night active lemurs and other nocturnal animals.

Day 3

Day Notes:

After breakfast, enjoy a guided visit to the Andasibe-Mantadia National Park, where you will discover the many species dwelling in the forest. In particular, your guide will search for the Indri, the largest lemurs on the island. This 810 ha reserve is unique with its endemic fauna and flora. It contains a wide variety of orchids, canopy, and endemic animals like chameleons, tenrecs, and many birds. 

Next, visit Lemur Island, a sanctuary dedicated to rescued lemurs. Here, you’ll have an up-close encounter with these charismatic primates while learning about conservation efforts aimed at protecting them.

Neighbouring the Amber Mountain National Park, the Joffreville village lies four kilometres from its entrance. This former French colonial town offers comfortable accommodation options in character-filled heritage buildings. The surrounding landscape features forested mountains, valleys and lush woodlands. The sleepy town of Joffreville serves as an excellent base for those wishing to explore the beautiful surroundings including the Amber Mountain National Park, which is home to several endemic species. Visitors can look forward to browsing a smattering of small shops, viewing the old church and strolling through the streets of the town dotted with fruit stalls selling locally grown seasonal fruit such as avocados, mangos, litchis, guavas and bananas.

    Day 5 - 7

    Nature Lodge is located in Joffreville in northern Madagascar, around 30 km from Diego Suarez and near Amber Mountain National Park. Nearby attractions include the Amber Mountain National Park as well as panoramic views over Diego Suarez Bay, the Mozambique Channel and the Indian Ocean. Guest chalets feature en-suite bathrooms, double and single beds, private wooden decks, Malagasy décor, and spacious interiors. The on-site restaurant serves seasonal meals prepared with fresh produce from the garden, local market and sea. Day Notes:

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Diego Suarez (Antsiranana), located in the far north of Madagascar. On arrival, you will be met by your guide and taken on a short introductory city tour, offering a glimpse into this coastal port town influenced by French colonial history and surrounding dramatic landscapes. Afterwards, continue to your lodge set near the forested highlands of Montagne d’Ambre.

Spend a full day exploring the Montagne d’Ambre National Park, a lush volcanic massif known for its cool climate, dense rainforest, and rich biodiversity. Walk through shaded forest trails filled with endemic flora, discover hidden waterfalls, crater lakes, and volcanic formations, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this elevated ecosystem. The park is also home to a variety of wildlife, including lemurs and chameleons, making it one of northern Madagascar’s most rewarding nature experiences.

Ankarana Reserve, Madagascar

Situated in northern Madagascar, the Ankarana Reserve lies on a magnificent plateau consisting of 150-million-year-old Jurassic limestone. This unspoilt landscape is known for its otherworldly fields of ‘tsingy’- spiky karst pinnacle rock formations - cloaking hidden forested canyons and a network of subterranean rivers. These isolated canyon pockets are home to some of the world’s most protected and untouched endemic fauna and flora. The reserve is renowned for this unique terrain and is said to have the highest density of primates of any forest in the world. Commonly spotted wildlife includes a variety of chameleons, the rare leaf-tailed Uroplatus, the crowned lemur, Sanford's brown lemur, Perrier's black lemur, the northern sportive lemur, and dwarf lemurs.

Day Notes:

Today you travel north towards the Ankarana region, passing through changing landscapes of rural villages, dry forest, and striking geological formations. En route, stop to visit the Red Tsingy, a surreal landscape of deeply eroded laterite sandstone sculpted by wind and rain into sharp pinnacles and ravines. Continue to your lodge near Ankarana.

Spend a full day exploring Ankarana Special Reserve, one of Madagascar’s most unique and geologically fascinating protected areas. The landscape is dominated by dramatic limestone formations known as Tsingy, creating a labyrinth of sharp pinnacles, canyons, and hidden passages. Walk through the guided trails to discover caves once used for sacred ceremonies, underground river systems, and natural rock bridges. The reserve is also rich in wildlife, including lemurs, reptiles, and a variety of bird species.

Nosy Be, Madagascar

Nosy Be is Madagascar’s most popular tourist destination. Located off the island's northwestern coast, this small island is blessed with exquisite sand beaches, glittering volcanic lakes, and diverse flora and fauna. Nosy Be has remained refreshingly unspoiled and free of development, with low-key beach bungalows outnumbering commercial resorts. Most visitors simply relax on idyllic beaches, go swimming or snorkelling in the calm azure waters, and enjoy seafood feasts at oceanfront restaurants; however, if you enjoy sightseeing, it’s worth paying a visit to the bazaar in Hell-Ville to pick up samples of fragrant spices (Nosy Be is nicknamed ‘The Perfume Island’). After breakfast, depart Ankarana and travel south to the coastal village of Ankify, passing through plantations of cocoa, coffee, and ylang-ylang along the way. From here, board a boat transfer across the channel to Nosy Be, known as the “Perfume Island” for its fragrant plantations and tropical atmosphere. On arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure, settling into island life.

A variety of optional activities are available, including snorkelling or diving in the coral-rich waters of Nosy Tanikely Marine Reserve, guided visits to Lokobe Nature Reserve to see black lemurs and dense rainforest, or boat excursions to surrounding islands such as Nosy Komba or Nosy Iranja, known for their pristine beaches and crystal-clear lagoons.
