Situated in southern Malawi, the city of Zomba formerly served as the colonial capital of the country. It is known for its architecture and its location on the southern slopes of the scenic Zomba Plateau. It serves as an excellent base for visitors to explore the surrounding area. The rugged wilderness featuring lush forests, glistening lakes, and cascading waterfalls lends itself to a variety of adventurous outdoor activities including, hiking, fishing, horse riding, birdwatching, mountain biking and rock climbing. Visitors can explore the city’s botanical gardens and golf course or venture further afield to the beautiful Zomba Nature Reserve.

Day Notes:

After arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to Zomba Forest Lodge, where you will spend the next 2 nights. In the afternoon, you will go out on your first shared game drive.

Liwonde National Park, Malawi

Liwonde National Park lies along the Shire River in southern Malawi. One of the country's premier safari destinations, it is celebrated for its abundant wildlife, scenic river landscapes and successful conservation initiatives. The park is home to large populations of elephants, hippos and crocodiles, while black rhinos, cheetahs and lions have been successfully reintroduced. Boat safaris offer close-up wildlife encounters, complemented by game drives through floodplains, mopane woodlands and open grasslands. Liwonde is also one of Malawi's leading birdwatching destinations, with more than 400 recorded species, and its palm-fringed riverbanks create striking scenery for photographers and nature lovers alike.

    Day 3 - 5

    Mvuu Camp has a spectacular vantage point along the Shire River that draws all manner of fauna to its banks. The camp, comprising 14 units as well as a nearby campsite, is a clever mix of spacious stone and canvas chalets and specially designed family tents. An impressive thatched dining and lounge area offers a magnificent river vista that is framed by two large baobab trees. Dinners are sometimes held under the stars in a specially constructed boma. A custom-built education and conference centre with facilities for up to 40 delegates or smaller corporate and team building functions is available.

Day 3

Day Notes:

Enjoy breakfast and then make your way further north to Liwonde National Park, where you will be transferred to Mvuu Camp. Mvuu Camp overlooks a broad stretch of the Shire River. The camp is a mix of stone and canvas chalets and specially designed family tents. An impressive thatched dining and lounge area is situated between two enormous baobabs, and dinners are sometimes held under the stars in a specially constructed boma. After settling in, enjoy your first shared afternoon game drive.

Day 4

Day Notes:

Today you will go out on a shared morning and afternoon game drive. Wildlife includes quite large numbers of elephants, and the river attracts countless hippos and crocodiles. Antelope include kudu, sable and bushbuck. There are leopards and hyenas, and the occasional visiting lion. Black rhino has been re-introduced. Birdlife is exceptionally varied. The river attracts fish eagles, and weaver birds build their nests in the thin woodland. Pel’s fishing owl is often seen at dusk along the river’s edge.

Cape Maclear, Malawi

Located on the southern shore of Lake Malawi at the tip of the Nankumba Peninsula, Cape Maclear is a little resort town surrounded by mountains and set within Lake Malawi National Park. This town features an array of beachside bars and local restaurants in a spectacularly scenic setting of golden sand beaches lapped by dazzling turquoise water. Cape Maclear is a Robinson-Crusoe paradise, making it a sought after tourist destination. Kayak over to the nearby Thumbi island and spot the majestic fish eagle, sail across the lake and catch a picturesque African sunset, or scuba dive into the crystal-clear depths of the lake, which boasts some of the best freshwater diving in the world. Other popular activities include: bird watching, windsurfing, hiking, swimming or shopping in the local craft markets as well as island tours and guided village walks.

    Day 5 - 7

    Chembe Eagles Nest is located on the shores of Lake Malawi in Cape Maclear, Malawi. The property offers 11 perfectly appointed chalets with air conditioning, mosquito nets, private bathrooms, furnished verandas, and tea/coffee-making facilities. Additional accommodation includes a campsite where campers can park their trailers and small caravans, or pitch their tents on the designated sites. Camp facilities include shared bathrooms,wash-up areas, laundry facilities, and parking. Facilities and services include a bar, a restaurant, and Wi-Fi.

Day Notes:

Enjoy a last shared morning game drive and breakfast in Liwonde before you head on to Lake Malawi. You will stay at Chembe Eagles Nest for the next 2 nights.

Cape Maclear is located on the Nankumba Peninsula, at the southern end of Lake Malawi. Surrounded by forested mountains, it’s known for the sandy beaches and granite rocks of Lake Malawi National Park.

Day Notes:
