Situated in the Khomas region of Central Namibia, the desert town of Solitaire serves as an oasis in the Namib Desert. The town provides an important stop on the way to the ancient dunes of Sossusvlei, allowing travellers to stock up on essentials as they make their way further into the wilderness. Solitaire also has a small bar and is renowned for its famous apple pie - said to be the best in the country. Enjoy a scenic sundowner with views of the spectacular Namib desert, hike and bike through the unspoilt natural surroundings, or visit the wonderful local Cheetah Sanctuary.

Day 1

Day Notes:

You'll be picked up by 7:00 am at The Delight in Swakopmund. The 5-hour route travels from Swakopmund to  The Namib- Naukluft National Park.

Namib Desert Lodge is where you’ll find some of the most spectacular scenery the Namib has to offer. En-route to this ancient desert, visitors journey via the Remhoogte Pass and via Solitaire to the Namib Desert. Unexpected canyons and vleis, and unique local settlements add awe-inspiring scenery and diversity to the trip.

After your check-in you can enjoy a lunch (on own account) followed by a few hours at leisure. Ca. 2 hours before sunset the Sundowner Dune Drive will start at reception. Duration of the tour is 2-3 hour.

Day 2

Day Notes:

An early start to the day awaits. Much of the day is spent climbing the highest sand dunes in the world. Big Daddy offers a strenuous climb, but the view along the crest is completely worth it. Upon descent, the whispering sands of the Namib lead to the ancient camelthorn trees of Dead Vlei – one of the most photographed areas in Sossusvlei. Exploration continues into the rugged Sesriem Canyon before returning to the lodge for the evening, but the day is not yet done. 

Sossusvlei Excursion: Guided half-day excursion to Sossusvlei, incl. entrance fees to the National Park, brunch, and refreshments. Duration of the tour is 5-6 hours. After returning from the tour, you'll have a few hours at leisure, before dinner is ready.
