Formerly the northern part of Selous Game Reserve, Nyerere National Park is Tanzania's largest National Park. Stretching over an impressive 30,893 square kilometres, the park is home to some of the world’s largest concentrations of wildlife, and the incredible diversity and sheer volume of animals draw visitors from around the globe. Travellers can look forward to spotting a wide collection of common and rare species including the famous Big Five, some rare species of antelopes like Roan Antelope, and large concentrations of elephant and hippos.     Day 1 - 4

    With unparalleled access to the Rufiji River, our intimate camp, right on the riverbank, offers front-row seats to everything that epitomises a safari in Tanzania – elephant cooling down in the water, hippo snorting, crocodile basking in the sun, and birds flitting through the trees. Escape to Rufiji River Camp, where comfort meets the untamed wilderness of Southern Tanzania. Awake to a symphony of the African bush – the Rufiji River in flow, elephant trumpeting, black and white colobus monkeys swinging in the treetops, and a chorus of some 440 bird species – before embarking on a wildlife safari. Perhaps you’ll see the world’s largest population of endangered African Wild Dog in this ‘Big Five’ national park. Welcome to Africa’s biggest conservation area. We call this UNESCO World Heritage Site home. Rufiji River Camp commands breathtaking views of the Great Rufiji River that sustains Southern Tanzania.

Day Notes:

Depart Dar es Salaam by Scheduled flight to Nyerere National Park (ex Selous Game Reserve). Transfer to the camp by the camp’s vehicle with game viewing en-route. After lunch enjoy your first ahread afternoon safari activity.

Enjoy the undisturbed beauty and amazing variety of wildlife. Predators and their prey abound and frequent sightings can include elephant, zebra, giraffe and a great variety of antelope species. On boat trips you can encounter crocodiles, hippos and hundreds of bird species.

Ruaha National Park, Tanzania

Following its recent expansion, Ruaha is currently East Africa’s biggest national park and the second-largest on the African continent. It is also Tanzania’s most sizeable elephant haven and home to a profusion of around 570 bird species, including kingfishers, plovers, egrets, hornbills and sunbirds. Crocodiles and hippos thrive in the Great Ruaha River, which flows along the sanctuary’s eastern border in the rainy season. In the dry season between July and November, animals flock to the last remaining water sources, presenting an exceptional wildlife spectacle.

    Day 4 - 7

    Mwagusi Safari Camp is located within the Ruaha National Park, Tanzania. Accommodation options consist of large spacious tents with thatch roofs, comfortable beds, living areas, and en-suite bathrooms. Facilities and services include two main dining areas, a reading room, laundry services, and solar power. Area activities include game drives, guided safari walks, and birdwatching.

Day 4

Day Notes:

After a last morning activity (time permitting) and breakfast you are transferred to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Ruaha National Park. In Ruaha National Park you will stay for 3 nights at Mwagusi Safari Camp. After lunch and a short rest, you will go on your first shared afternoon game drive in this new environment.
